Mr Mer Best, Lecturer of the department of microbiology university of Jos and CEO Meyana Bioenergy Limited standing alongside representatives from the top 5 teams displaying their team projects.

The maiden edition of the Meyana GoGreen enviropreneurship challenge held between August and September 2019. The goal was to promote sustainability in our environment, especially with the rising issues of pollution which have become a cause for concern and hence the need to find renewable solutions.

The challenge engaged final year (400L) microbiology students of the University of Jos to test, develop and expose their knowledge of microbial processes in solving environmental challenges for business success. Solutions developed were aimed to tackle various forms of pollution caused by mining, hydrocarbons, industries, and agricultural and municipal wastes.

Over a hundred and fifty students collaborated in teams to develop practical and sustainable solutions in form of products, services and prototype models with the capacity to run as an independent, viable and value-added business that solves any of the aforementioned pollution challenges.

The top 3 teams were:

First Place: Desert Roses

Second place: Organic Waste Bioreactor

Second place: Katalambano

The second position was a tie. There were different prices and incentives for participants such as prizes for social media engagement, competition quizzes and the likes. Prices included money and phone airtime. Desert Roses emerged in the first place and won the top price of $200.
